A Thousand fibres connect each of us with our fellow Tau and along those fibres our deeds run as causes which come back to us as effects. Everything we do must be in the furtherance of the Greater Good lest we return to the Mont'au, the Terror.
I've seen the idea before and I think it is a very reasonable one. Something like the power lifter from Aliens only more Tau-ified.
I don't really see much point in making rules for it though, which it seems everyone tries to to. In an actual game they would be scenery or objective markers or something.
Might be an interesting scenario though. The Tau are pulling out of a region and the earth caste is dismantling strategic assets while a fire caste rearguard defends them from advance elements of the invaders. The Tau player has to keep the earth caste guys alive long enough for them to complete their mission.
On the other hand, I could also easily see the Tau using drones for that sort of heavy lifting and stuff, making the earth caste a guy to the side with an advanced drone controller. Once Upon a midnight dreary....
Maybe have him in a civy version of the piranha. with equipment capable of controlling 5 or 6 drone? I think I'm insane; does that make me sane or insane?
The piranha ideas interests me. you could have lifta-grabba drones prehapes? it would be the tau way, they after all use Drone for darn near everything (see the novel Kill-team for more on how to be a lazy tau). The Cadre A Tau Players campaign forum
